Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm - Diagnosis, Treatment

This is a rare congenital heart disease. Sinus of Valsalva is called a protrusion of the aortic wall corresponding semilunar cusps of aortic valve. An aneurysm is an extension of the vessel wall. It is formed as a result of the weakness of the vascular wall due to violations of its formation in utero. When a child is born, this flaw does not appear immediately. A child can grow and develop normally.

However, during the life of an aneurysm increases, it becomes thinner wall and in the end it is the gap. This immediately leads to disruption of blood flow to the heart. A current of blood from the left heart in the right, increasing the pressure in the pulmonary arteries. Clinically it is characterized by a sharp deterioration of the patient. Shortness of breath, increased heart rate, and soon developed heart failure.

Diagnosis helps to listen to systolic or diastolic noise on the left of the sternum. An electrocardiogram changes do not happen. On radiographs show an increase in heart size, the more right-wing of his department. Echocardiography reveals the sinus of Valsalva aneurysm, even before its rupture. In identifying this helps defect as aortography (study of the aorta with contrast media).

Treatment.

Surgical treatment is essential in identifying sinus aneurysm. Made of plastic walls of the aortic patch under cardiopulmonary bypass.
