Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis - the disease, treatment and diagnosis is a very difficult task. The reason is that the cause of the disorder and the mechanism of development of multiple sclerosis is not completely clear. It is known that this disease is an autoimmune, ie in which tissue damage occurs the body's own immune system also. Most often the disease occurs at a young age and can run as long and relatively favorable, and the lightning speed with rapid fatal outcome. There is a hypothesis of viral origin of multiple sclerosis. Thus, patients are often found in the blood of antibodies to rubella virus, herpes, measles and mumps.

This suggests that the disease may be triggered by slow-moving viral infection that did not cause any clinical symptoms, but leads to a restructuring of the immune body. As a result of this restructuring, the immune system becomes aggressive with respect to "family" of organs and tissues, ie, perceives them as foreign antigen. In particular, impaired recognition of the protein structure of nerve fibers and the immune system begins to produce antibodies, affecting the nerves.

Thus, the essence of pathological changes in multiple sclerosis is reduced to "expose the" nerve fibers of the body, resulting in impaired nerve impulses conduct to all organs. This leads to various symptoms of "loss" and "distortion" of functions. For example, visual disturbances in the form of reduced acuity and clarity of perception, impaired sensitivity of individual sections of the skin and mucous membranes, occurrence of muscle cramps, large seizures, impaired contraction of the muscles due to their excessive weakness or, conversely, painful hypertonicity. Distorted as well, and the functioning of internal organs and the human psyche.

Thus, frequent occurrence of urinary incontinence and stool, the lack of sensitivity of the genitals with the development of frigidity and impotence, of the mind - depression or, conversely, unmotivated euphoria. All symptoms, as part of the body and mind, is extremely volatile than can appear and disappear within a week. There are several types of MS disease. For example, the disease can manifest itself with a sharp exacerbation of impaired vision, hearing, walking, or even complete immobilization of the body. However, exacerbation followed by remission, which are all violations of all. Another option is the current, less favorable, it is a steady progression of disorders of the organs, the development of paresis and paralysis of hands and feet, adjoining the secondary inflammatory infections of the lungs and kidneys.

Predict the type of flow is very difficult, as well as to treat multiple sclerosis. It is believed that factors indicating a favorable trend, are: onset before 40 years of frustration, and a good long-term remission after the first attack.

To treat multiple sclerosis should begin as soon as possible. In therapy, there are several groups of drugs that suppress the immune system and contribute to the restoration of nerve membranes. In recent years, progressively expanding the list of these medicines:

First, a group of hormonal anti-inflammatory drugs - corticosteroids and hormone kortikotropny

Secondly, the drugs act directly on cells of the immune system - immunosuppressive and interferons

Third, agents that improve the conduct nerve impulses of neurons and nutrition - biopolymers, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

In the complex of therapeutic measures are as plasmapheresis, massage, prevention of inflammatory complications of the skin, respiratory and urinary tract infections.
