Lumbar pain syndromes: lumbago, sciatica

Lumbar pain syndromes: lumbago, sciatica

According to epidemiological studies, every third person once in my life felt pain in his back. And the most common cause of their appearance - osteochondrosis. Lumbar pain can be of different nature - aching arising after prolonged sitting or sleep at night, or sharp shooting, which caught in the very uncomfortable position, and make it impossible to straighten. All of them are related to pinched nerve roots, irritation of the nerves of the spine of their own, as well as swelling and irritation of the muscles and ligaments in the area of innervation of the lumbar spine.

Lumbar pain may be aggravated by coughing and sneezing, with any movement, especially in the torso staring. Along with back pain, lumbar osteochondrosis can manifest violation of the sensitivity of individual sections of the skin or muscles of the lower half of the torso and legs, the weakening or disappearance of tendon reflexes in the legs. Generally, osteochondrosis occurs when the curvature of the lumbar spine. Depending on the plane in which the curvature, distinguish scoliosis (curvature of the right or left), lordosis (bulge forward) and kyphosis (smoothing of the lumbar bulge, or even his back). In the event that osteochondrosis is pinched spinal cord, there is a violation of urination or defecation, and as violation of the sensitivity of the bladder or genitals.

However, most often manifested radicular low back pain lumbar pain - that is, developing as a result of pinching the nerve roots extending from the spinal cord at a certain level. For example, one of the most widely known of the lumbar syndromes - lumbago. There he was at the time of physical stress or in an awkward posture, and sometimes for no apparent reason. Suddenly, within a few minutes or hours, there is a sharp sweep pain ("lumbago"), it is often burning and arching ("as if the count stuck in the waist"). Patient freezes in an awkward position, unable to straighten up when the attack came at the time of lifting. Attempts to come down from the bed, cough, or bend the leg followed by a sharp increase in pain and sacrum.

If you ask the patient to stand up. it revealed a sharp immobility throughout the lumbar region due to muscle tension. The second is the well-known syndrome sciatica, and sciatica. It develops as a result of infringement of the spine, which is located slightly lower than lumbago. Therefore, there are shooting pains in the buttock and back of the leg, usually on one side of the body. As with lumbago, they are amplified with a change in body position. At the foot revealed a particularly painful to the touch areas - a bony protrusions on the bottom of the buttocks and the knee. Along with this painful nodules are found in the very hip and shin muscles. The attacks of lumbago and sciatica tend to recur throughout life. It is therefore important to identify the type of load or position of the body that trigger their appearance. This will help prevent the development of seizures. Acute health effects of disease cropped analgesics, pain medications blockages in the area of the spine, as well as special techniques for stretching the spine and the gluteal region. Treatment of the syndrome should be comprehensive
